What is the maximum speed of Fliteboard?

By hdavidson posted on April 10, 2024

How fast can a Fliteboard go?

Fliteboard can reach up to 30 mph, making it one of the fastest eFoils available. We know this might sound intimidating to some beginner eFoilers, but the good news is you do not have to go that fast! Depending on the size of the wing, an electric hydrofoil takes flight at a comfortable 11 mph to 12.5 mph. An easy-to-use wing like the Cruiser Jet 1500 or Cruiser 1800 would make all the difference for someone just starting. Something more advanced, like a Flyer 800, would be a good fit for an advanced foiler looking for speed.

eFoil Lessons

Imagine the stoke of taking your first flight on an eFoil. At Emerald Wake, we run an eFoil school in beautiful Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. One of our most rewarding moments is seeing our students’ big smiles when they experience the joy of eFoiling for the first time.

We prioritize safety and ensure that all our eFoil lessons are conducted in a controlled environment, with experienced instructors guiding you at every step. One of our favorite parts of lessons is seeing people realize they can do it when they take their first flight, knowing they are in safe hands.

Choosing the Right eFoil

Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced rider, we have the perfect eFoil for you. We use Fliteboard for teaching because they offer a diverse range of eFoils, from beginner-friendly options to high-performance models that even the most experienced riders would appreciate. Some eFoils are easier than others, and some are downright difficult to learn. We use Fliteboard for teaching because they offer a dynamic range of eFoils, many of which are beginner-friendly yet, few people would ever outgrow.

How fast should I go on a Fliteboard?

12.5 mph to 15 mph for the first time. After that, it depends on how comfortable you are in flight. There is a process for your first time on an eFoil. We start lessons by going slow and breaking things down into small steps. A good rule is to only go as fast as you are comfortable. Before you take flight or engage the foil, you will ride on your stomach or knees. This process takes about 15 to 25 minutes for most, and we find people love to go fast in the prone position as their center of gravity is so low.

Next, our eFoil students practice popping up into a standing position. You will keep your weight forward to prevent the electric hydrofoil from taking flight. We call this the taxi stage; the average speed is around 12 mph.

You will feel pressure from the nose of the board as the foil tries to rise. Once you are comfortable, you can apply pressure on your rear foot to control the height of the foil. At this stage, you should be going 12.5 mph to achieve flight.

Your First eFoil Ride

When you first ride an eFoil, you should average 15 mph. Use this time to focus on controlling the board. You control the foil height by balancing your weight between your front and back foot. You control the eFoil board’s turn by combining leaning forward and backward with heel or toe pressure. Falling is a part of the process and part of the thrill!

Going slower gives you time to acclimate and master controlled riding and controlled falls.

How fast do I need to go to take flight on Fliteboard?

12.5 MPH to take flight on the hydrofoil wing. If you go too slow, the board will push the nose up, making you uncomfortable. To solve this issue, go faster, stand closer to the nose, and shift your weight onto your front leg. If you’re going to stay on the taxi stage without taking a flight, you can stand with both feet near the front of the board. You must keep your back leg closer to the mast to take flight.

Heavy riders will need more speed, and lighter riders can go a little slower. You can use the Flite Controller to select a gear or speed that feels comfortable for you. To make this process simple and fun, we teach our students to start with the lowest gear possible for their weight. As you advance, you can select faster gears and get an exhilarating ride on your terms!

The best part of eFoiling is how much control we have over the ride. Everyone has a subjective threshold of comfort and excitement, and there is a Fliteboard to meet your needs. For timid riders, the Flitescooter is a massive high-volume eFoil that lets most riders start in a standing position. It has handlebars for balance, controlled flight, and controlled falls. For adrenaline seekers, the Fliteboard PRO or the ULTRA L2 Are lightweight, low-volume, high-performance eFoils designed for speed, sharp carving turns, tricks, and wave riding. The Fliteboard 100 liter is the perfect balance of comfort and speed to learn with and grow into. You can customize these foils with different hydrofoil wings to change the ride.

How fast can I go on a Fliteboard?

When you are experienced, you can go up to 30 mph on a Fliteboard. Few things are as exciting as flying above the water at full speed with complete confidence and control, carving turns, feeling the glide of the hydrofoil, and watching the shoreline race by. The Fliteboard is the first choice of many competitive eFoil race athletes, and for good reason.

To arrive at this level of confidence, you can use the virtual gears to set your speed. There is no need to balance on the trigger, allowing you to progress to your desired maximum speed at your leisure. New riders will start at a lower gear to achieve a consistent flight speed, and advanced riders can max out the Fliteboard and charge fast with confidence.

The best part of eFoiling is that we are practicing a watersport. Few sports allow you to go this fast with little consequence. Of course, there is always some risk with any sport, but if you fall back and away from the board and foil, water is forgiving and fun. The first time an eFoil student falls from the board, they always come back up with a huge smile, ready for more!

What is the top speed of a Fliteboard eFoil?

In conclusion, the top speed of a Fliteboard is 30 mph. We don’t recommend going that fast to start, but with time and practice, you will get there. Whether you’re into racing, charging hard, or simply enjoying a leisurely cruise, eFoiling offers something for everyone. It’s about enjoying the ride, whatever level you are at. For many, it’s about going for a leisurely cruise, taking in the views, and exploring a new lake or secret hydrofoil spot. For others, they are chasing small rolling waves and using the motor to power themselves into waves that no surfboard could ever ride. At the end of the day, eFoiling is about having fun; we love it and we’re sure you will too!

If you want to max out your speed and turns, we recommend using something like the Flite Race 700 wing with a low drag setup like the MN Carbon Wave eFoil System. The Flyer 800 is also a popular option for riders with a need for speed.
