 Fliteboard Vs. Fliteboard PRO

By hdavidson posted on December 10, 2023

Fliteboard has some of the best eFoils in the world. They have proven themselves as industry leaders, with broken records and new technology, and they have led the eFoil industry with innovations. In 2024, Fliteboard introduced the fourth generation of its world-class efoils.

Do boards matter in eFoiling?

While some may argue that the board is not crucial in choosing an eFoil or foil, we beg to differ. Yes, the eFoil, wings, and battery are the primary drivers of the ride when on foil. However, the eFoil board significantly influences your experience, affecting aspects such as ease of use, touchdowns, takeoffs, storage, and the overall performance of the eFoil. Disregarding the importance of the board in eFoiling would be a mistake.

Small eFoil boards

For example, a short eFoil board with rounded or beveled edges will be a challenge for a new eFoiler. The hydrofoil wings will become far more responsive to your input. The board will also require more balance and skill. If you’re experienced, it would be easier to pump the foil and take sharp, fast turns. For performance, eFoil surfing with shorter boards is the best choice. They offer the most maneuverability, lower swing weight, and can ride steeper waves.

Large eFoil boards

Conversely, a large board with sharper rails will have a fast takeoff and provide more stability when idle or on touchdowns. It will also make the electric hydrofoil less sensitive to rider feedback. An inflatable eFoil board will be soft and forgiving. Yet, if it didn’t have a solid core like the Fliteboard AIR, the hydrofoils under the water would feel spongy and non-responsive.

Fliteboard Vs. Fliteboard PRO

If you’re torn between the Fliteboard and the Fliteboard PRO, this guide will help you make an informed decision. We’ll start by comparing each board’s specifications and then delve into the other options that can significantly impact your ride.

The eFoil board is essential, but other features are still important. The eFoil battery, the hydrofoil wings, the mast length, and the propulsion system play significant roles in your experience on the water.

Fliteboard 100-liter

• Weight 67.9lbs

• Volume 100 liter

• Length 5’8’’

• Wide 28″

• Price $8,995

The Fliteboard is the most versatile eFoil board in the range. It’s the most all-around design for all levels of experience or riding styles. 100 liters is a good starting size for most riders. If you are a heavy-set rider, the Fliteboard AIR does come in 110 liters for extra float. This is the perfect option if you are new to the sport. The good news is many people never feel the need to upgrade. A smaller eFoil board is exciting, but most people want something fun and easy to glide above the water. The main point is to enjoy the outdoors and the thrill of the ride with their friends and family.

This is the ideal eFoil board to learn on, teach your family, and share with your friends. You’ll be stoked for years to come on this model. We recommend it for 90% of our customers.

The Fliteboard 100-liter model offers numerous benefits, especially for beginners and those seeking a versatile and user-friendly eFoiling experience. Here are the key benefits:

Stability and Ease of Use: The 100-liter volume provides excellent buoyancy and stability, making it easier for beginners to balance and control the board. This stability is crucial for learning how to eFoil, as it allows new riders to gain confidence more quickly with fewer falls.

Versatility: The Fliteboard 100 liter is designed to accommodate a wide range of rider weights and skill levels. Its versatile nature makes it suitable for various riding styles, from casual cruising to more dynamic maneuvers, making it an ideal choice for families or groups with varying experience levels.

All-Around Performance: This model offers a balanced performance, combining sufficient stability with good maneuverability. It provides a smooth ride in different water conditions, whether on calm lakes or slightly choppy seas, making it a reliable all-around board.

Beginner-Friendly: 100 liters is a great middle-ground for learning without being too big later on. The Fliteboard 100 liter has been well-suited for teaching, learning, and general use for years. Beginners can focus on mastering eFoiling without worrying about balance and control, which are more challenging on smaller boards like the Fliteboard PRO.

Family and Group Use: The board’s stability and ease of use make it an excellent choice for sharing among friends and family. It’s forgiving enough for beginners while providing an enjoyable experience for more experienced riders, making it a top choice for group outings at the beach or lake.

Better for Heavy Riders: If you’re above 220 pounds, the additional volume and buoyancy of the 100 liter board will be better than that of a 67L Fliteboard PRO. That’s not to say the Fliteboard PRO is out of your reach! Be objective and consider your level on a foil. If you’re an exceptional athlete, the pro will shine regardless.

More Forgiving than the PRO: The board’s forgiving nature makes it less sensitive to rider input and minor rider errors, which can be particularly beneficial for those still honing their skills. You will have more swing weight than the Fliteboard Pro, but that distance from the nose to the mast makes the board more forgiving.

Ease of Storage and Transport: Despite its larger size than the Fliteboard PRO, the Fliteboard 100 liter is designed to be manageable in terms of storage and transport. It can be easily carried and stored without requiring special equipment or extensive space, making it convenient for regular use compared to other watercraft.

Durable Construction Options: Both models are available in durable construction options such as fiberglass, carbon, or soft-top, providing riders with choices that balance weight, performance, and cost. These construction materials have their benefits.

Fliteboard PRO 67-liter

• Weight 51.8lbs

• Volume 67L

• Length 5’0’’

• Width 28″

• Price $8,995

The Fliteboard PRO is shorter and has less volume than the Fliteboard. It’s aimed at lighter riders and advanced efoilers. Short, low-volume eFoil boards have many advantages. They are more maneuverable, they pump better, and they are easier to carry and transport. At 67L, this is still a high-volume board in the hydrofoil world. It would be a challenging model for a heavy rider just starting. It would be ideal for smaller riders and more fun for experienced eFoilers. The Fliteboard PRO is a good fit for aspiring eFoil surfers and aggressive riders. The smaller board will be stored better in your vehicle, garage, or boat and easier to carry.

The Fliteboard PRO offers several benefits that cater to more advanced eFoilers and those looking for a higher-performance experience. Here are the key benefits:

Increased Maneuverability: The Fliteboard PRO is shorter and has less volume than the standard Fliteboard, making it significantly more maneuverable. This allows for sharper turns and more dynamic riding, ideal for experienced riders who want to push their skills to the limit.

Better response and performance: The Fliteboard PRO’s reduced volume (67 liters) and weight (51.8 lbs) make it perfect for lighter or advanced riders. This board responds more quickly to rider input for sharper turns, pumping, or carving on waves and wake.

Ease of Transport: Due to its smaller size and lighter weight, the Fliteboard PRO is easier to carry, transport, and store. This makes it convenient for those who need to move their board frequently, whether to the beach, a boat, or storage space.

Available as a soft-top: The Soft-top is a fiberglass board with a protective EVA layer. This is a smart option because you won’t lose any of the benefits of the fiberglass construction, yet you won’t have to worry about damage to the deck.

Better pumping: The Fliteboard PRO’s low swing weight allows for better pumping, which is the action of generating lift and propulsion by moving the board up and down. This skill is crucial for advanced eFoilers, especially those who want to maintain speed without continuously using the motor.

Compact Storage: The Fliteboard PRO’s smaller dimensions mean it takes up less space, making it easier to store in your vehicle, garage, or boat. This compact size is advantageous for those with limited storage space or who frequently travel with their board.

Best for experienced foilers: The PRO model is aimed at those who have mastered basic foiling skills and are looking to push themselves further. Its features are optimized for performance rather than ease of use, making it an excellent choice for seasoned eFoilers seeking a high-performance board. The board supports more aggressive riding styles and advanced techniques such as racing, sharp carving, wave riding, or poaching some wake. The board’s design provides the control and precision needed for these activities.

What Fliteboard eFoil construction is best?

Each Fliteboard board comes in three constructions. You have the choice of

fiberglass, carbon, and soft top.

Fliteboard and Fliteboard Pro Soft Top

We recommend this for new riders and people who want something durable yet soft. The EVA top will provide more grip and stability; it’s softer for falls, and you don’t have to worry about scratching anything on the boat.

Fliteboard and Fliteboard PRO Carbon

If you want the most premium eFoil, this is it. Carbon is lighter, stiffer, and offers the most response. This is the most durable option, and the carbon Fliteboard will be more damage-resistant. One consideration is that repairs are more expensive.

Fliteboard Fiberglass

This is a popular option, and it offers some benefits. Fiberglass is a tried-and-true construction material. It’s durable and has a damper, shock-absorbing yet responsive feel. However, with hydrofoiling, this is less of a concern. The most significant benefit is the reduced cost. If you need any repairs, it’s cheaper to have work done than with carbon.

What Fliteboard eFoil should I buy?

Now that you have decided what board is best for you, it’s time to examine all the other components of your Fliteboard eFoil.

What Fliteboard eFoil should I buy?

Each Fliteboard eFoil comes with many options depending on the model.

• Flite Control or MN Flite Control

• 75cm eFoil mast or 80cm mast

• Prop & Guard or Flite Jet propulsion system

• Hydrofoil wings – Choice of 1500, 1300 or 800

• Flitecell eFoil battery – Choice of Flitecell Nano, Flitecell Sport, or Flitecell Explore

• eFoil charger – Slow or fast

• eFoil case & board bag

Fliteboard and Fliteboard PRO eFoil Mast Options.

The Fliteboard comes with the Black 75cm Mast. You can upgrade to the performance silver or black 80cm mast. Shorter masts are more accessible to learn with and you’ll have a shorter distance to fall from. They are best if you have shallow water or sand bars at your location. Longer masts allow the rider to make sharper turns and are best for choppy conditions. This will be a good choice if you will foil in the ocean.

What Fliteboard mast should I buy?

  •  75cm Mast: Standard and easier for beginners, ideal for shallow waters.
  • 80cm Mast: Allows sharper turns and is better for choppy ocean conditions.

Prop & Guard VS Flite Jet or Folding Prop

The prop is more potent than the Flite Jet, which is advantageous for heavy riders. The guard can be removed for more efficiency and less drag. The Flite Jet is the safest and smoothest eFoil propulsion system to date. It’s the best option for schools and beginners. There is no propellor to worry about kicking, and the shape is more aerodynamic.

The folding prop is best for wave eFoiling. Use the propeller to power into waves or boat wakes! Once you’ve caught the wave, you can stop using the propellor and ride unpowered. The propeller will fold to reduce drag for an actual hydrofoil surf experience.

What Fliteboard Propellor should I buy?

  • Prop & Guard: More powerful, suitable for heavy riders.
  • Flite Jet: Safest and smoothest, ideal for beginners and schools.
  • Folding Prop: Best for wave eFoiling, reduces drag for an authentic surf experience.

Fliteboard Hydrofoil Wings.

The hydrofoil wing will be what you are riding on most of the time. Choose for your experience level and the level of those who will be using your eFoil.

Cruiser Jet 1500 + 300

The 1500 is the perfect size for beginner eFoilers or heavy riders. It’s the default option with the Flite Jet and the most user-friendly. It’s more stable, and you can achieve flight at lower, more forgiving speeds. If this is your first eFoil, we highly recommend this option.

Cruiser 1100 + 290

An 1100 wing is going to be versatile. With the power of an eFoil, it’s not too difficult to learn and will be maneuverable and fun. Ride faster, take sharper turns, and feel the rush. We recommend learning with the 1500 and adding this wing option for later.

Flyer 800 + 290

This wing has the best top-end speed. It’s for riders who want to go fast and carve hard. There will be more challenging options to start with. We recommend this wing for intermediate riders looking for a thrill.

Flow 1300 + 245

This wing is ideal for Fliteboard PRO and eFoil surfing. Choose this for the best carving and surf experience.

Should I buy the Fliteboard Cruiser Jet 1500, 1100, Flyer 800 or Flow 1300?

  • Cruiser Jet 1500 + 300: Best for beginners and heavy riders.
  • Cruiser 1100 + 290: Versatile and fun, suitable for intermediate riders.
  • Flyer 800 + 290: For high-speed, hard-carving enthusiasts.
  • Flow 1300 + 245: Ideal for Fliteboard PRO and eFoil surfing.

What Flitecell eFoil battery should I choose?

You can choose the Nano, the sport, or the Explore. The primary considerations here are the ride time and the weight of the eFoil battery.

Flitecell Nano eFoil Battery

The Flitecell Nano is the lightest eFoil battery. It can ride for up to 45 minutes. This is an excellent option for travel or to lighten the carry weight of your eFoil. It will provide the least swing weight, and it’s the best choice for eFoil surfing or riders who are smaller.

Flitecell Sport eFoil Battery

It can be ridden for up to 90 minutes and is the standard option for most Fliteboards. This sport offers the best of both worlds: You can extend your ride and spend more time on the water. If you don’t need the benefits of a lightweight eFoil battery, this is our recommendation.

Flitecell Explore eFoil Battery

This is the best eFoil battery for a long day on the boat. If you want to spend more time riding and less time charging, we recommend the Explore. It has a ride time of up to 150 minutes.

Should I buy the Fliteboard Nano, Sport or Explore Battery?

  • Nano: Lightest, 45 minutes ride time, great for travel and surfing.
  • Sport: Standard option, 90 minutes ride time, balanced for most users.
  • Explore: Longest ride time, up to 150 minutes, perfect for extended outings.

Flitecell Slow Charger vs. Fast Charger

There are two options for eFoil battery chargers. Choose what will be the most convenient for you. The Fast Charger is more expensive but can charge the Explorer battery in two hours! With the Slow Charger, you will save a lot of money, but it will take up to nine hours to fully charge the Explore Flitecell.

Should I buy the Fliteboard Slow Charger or Fast Charger?

  • Slow Charger: Cost-effective, takes up to 9 hours for a full charge.
  • Fast Charger: More expensive, charges the Explore battery in 2 hours.

Flite Controller Vs MN Flite Controller.

The Flite Controller is tried and true. It is ergonomic and has a smooth power delivery. It comes with a wrist strap and is easy to use. The MN Flite Controller has an exciting color interface and real-time tracking options. It’s the best controller to pair with the Fliteboard PRO and for eFoil surfers.

Should I buy the Flite Controller or the Mark Newsome MN Flite Controller?

  • Flite Controller: Ergonomic, smooth power delivery, wrist strap included.
  • MN Flite Controller: Color interface, real-time tracking, best for the Fliteboard PRO and eFoil surfers.
